Chingy may be dropped from DTP

Dang! Things ain’t lookin’ to good for Chingy! The St. Louis rapper supposedly was dropped from DTP (Disturbing Tha Peace)/Def Jam Records! I heard the rumor awhile ago, but it became official when Chingy’s name was no longer listed on Def Jam’s Official website.

As you may recall, Chingy left DTP in 2004 after he claimed his money was a lil funny and was being mismanaged. Then he released two album entitled “Powerballin” and “Hoodstar” under Capitol Records and both album went double PLASTIC!

Chingy wanted to revive his career, and knew he need Ludacris and the DTP family to make that happen. So in 2007 he released Hate It or Love It and it still suffered low sales.
Ummm…should Chingy give up his rap career…Is it a rap for Chingy?

Jay-Z has a new Blueprint for us

Jay-Z has confirmed rumors that he's hard at work on his 11th and final album via Def Jam, "The Blueprint 3."

Last night (Aug. 6), the MC appeared as a guest during Kanye West's Glow in the Dark concert at New York City's Madison Square Garden. Amidst performing, West asked the audience if he could play a few beats that he recorded while in Hawaii recently, including a song tentatively called "Jockin' Jay-Z."

As the track played, Jay-Z himself crossed the stage and began rapping, "That bloke from Oasis said I couldn't play guitar // somebody shoulda told him I'm a f*cking rock star / today is gonna be the day that I'm gonna throw it back to you." He was referencing his cover of Oasis' "Wonderwall" at the recent Glastonbury Festival, which drew a mixed response.

According to longtime Jay-Z friend and Roc-A-Fella artist Memphis Bleek, "Jockin' Jay-Z" is only one of many gems that West has crafted for the MC.

Cam's dismantling the team, sells Juelz contract

Since Cam’ron has been laying low, Juelz Santana and Jim Jones became the face of the Diplomats/Dipset movement. Well, although Cam’ron has been hard to pin down, he is making BIG moves…Cam’ron recently sold Juelz Santana contract to Def Jam for $2 Million. Like Jim Jones, Juelz also distanced himself from his former mentor.

In an email posted on Miss Info’s website, Juelz had this to say about his contract being sold to Def Jam:

“A! What’s good !! Yeah, I’m free!! And ready to do me!! But its still Dip Set 4 life!! Its just going to be a new chapter!!” he stated. Although he said that it was “still Dip Set 4 life,” he followed by addressing his relationship with Killa Cam.

“I have no hard feeling for Cam, after all, he did give me a chance!!! But I will say this I was loyal to him and he took advantage.”

“Mixtape coming up soon, my solo mixtape (’the Reagan Era’),” he revealed

“I have a joint venture with Def Jam, a 50/50 deal,” he continued. “Yeah, it’s a new boss in town. Album is called Born to Lose, Built to Win!!!! (The rise of the skullgang).

Shakir Stewart aka the man to fill Jay-Z's shoes

Last week it was formally announced that Shakir Stewart is the new Executive Vice President of Def Jam. While rumors had swirled for months after Jay-Z’s departure from his Presidential duties, L.A. Reid and the team were already preparing Stewart for his new role in managing the business day to day.

Stewart began his work at Def Jam in 2004 as VP of A&R for the label, and was promoted to Senior VP of A&R in 2006. Shakir’s extensive education and background in music marketing ranges from independent promotions (working with the likes of Too $hort) and marketing to publishing (he signed Beyoncé to her publishing deal at Hitco)

He’s also had his hand in the careers of some of the biggest names in today’s music acts including Ciara, (whom he signed to LaFace during his tenure there), Jeezy and Rick Ross.

Stewart is now poised with enthusiasm and an inspirational attitude to bring about some creative growth at Def Jam. Will he be able to balance the marketing plans for their diverse array of artists? How is he addressing those artists who’ve been unhappy with their situations at the label? How does he really feel about Nas’ latest marketing decisions? We asked, he answered.
