Michael Jackson pt. 1 The Bio

It's Michael Jackson... whether or not you think he's crazy as shit right now... he possibly is the best musician ever. Here's part 1 of MJ and his bio...

Michael Joseph Jackson (born August 29, 1958) is an American musician and entertainer. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene at the age of eleven as a member of The Jackson 5. Jackson began a solo career in 1972; he became a pop icon and was named the "King of Pop" in subsequent years. Five of his solo studio albums have become some of the world's best-selling pop records: Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).

Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music in the late 1970s as the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller—credited for transforming the concept of music video into an art form and a promotional tool—helped bring the relatively young channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" kept Jackson a staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced numerous hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists.

Jackson has donated and raised several hundred million dollars for beneficial causes through his Dangerous World Tour, charity singles and support of thirty-nine charities.[1][2] However, other aspects of his personal life have generated significant controversies, his plastic surgery, lightening skin tone due to vitiligo and eccentric behavior that have damaged his public image. He was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, although the matter was settled out of court. In 2005, Jackson was tried and later acquitted of further child molestation allegations and several other charges. He has been the subject of long-term financial difficulties and health concerns.

Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. His awards include multiple Guinness World Records, including one for Thriller as the world's best-selling album, thirteen Grammy Awards, thirteen number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist after the creation of the Billboard Hot 100—and the sale of over 750 million units worldwide. Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, has made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades.

Classic Video: Van Halen - Hot For Teacher

Come on now we all once in awhile have been hot for a teacher right? Back in 1984 Van Halen gave us the musical rendition of that feeling. Enjoy.

Van Halen Bio

Van Halen is an American hard rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. They enjoyed success from the release of their self titled debut album in 1978. As of 2007 Van Halen has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide[2] and have had the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.[3] According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is the 19th best selling band/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the USA[4] and is one of five rock bands that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the USA.

In addition to being recognized for quality and success, the band is known for the drama surrounding the exits of former members. The (multiple) exits of singers Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth were surrounded in controversy and mass press coverage with various contrasting press statements between them and the band. More recently, founding bassist Michael Anthony was kicked out of the band for controversial reasons. Following their 2004 concert tour the band was on a hiatus from the public until September 2006, new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen's place was confirmed and Roth-reunion rumours began to re-surface coinciding with the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on March 12, 2007.[5] After years of speculation, Van Halen began a tour with Roth in late 2007 across North America, which has been extended into 2008. An album is proposed to follow.[6] Along with this, a live tour DVD was announced at their May 13, 2008 concert at the Izod Center that would contain recordings from several performances on their current tour.

Classic Music Video: Eric B. & Rakim

My personal opinion the greatest MC ever, and his dope DJ. Double up the heat with 2 Rakim.

Don't Sweat the Technique

I Ain't No Joke

Eric B. & Rakim Bio

Eric Barrier (Eric B.) and Rakim Allah (Rakim), were a hip-hop duo known as Eric B. & Rakim. The pair is generally considered to be one of the most influential and groundbreaking groups in the history of hip hop, due to their dark production and Rakim's revolutionary rhyming style, which was smooth, seemingly effortless, and used remarkably complex rhyming schemes involving internal rhymes and sophisticated metaphors. Their single "I Know You Got Soul," which borrowed extensively from the Bobby Byrd record "I Know You Got Soul," was one of the era's stand-out James Brown-influenced recordings, and further popularized the extensive sampling of Mr. Brown's catalogue in an addition to other similar soul and funk artists.

Classic Music Video: Benny Benassi

Well when you need a sexy dance track and a video... Benny Benassi's video comes to mind. So hot had to put up two...

Classic Music Video: Guns 'N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine

G.N.R. Nothing else needs to be said.

Guns 'N' Roses Bio

Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. The band, led by frontman and co-founder Axl Rose, has gone through numerous line-up changes and controversy since its formation. Guns N' Roses have released five studio albums, two EPs, one live album, and three music video DVDs within its career. The band is currently working on the infamous album Chinese Democracy, which has been in production for over a decade. Once released, the album will be the first original recording from Guns N' Roses since the 1991 releases of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.

Guns N' Roses have sold an estimated 90 million albums worldwide, including 40 million in the United States. The band's 1987 major label debut album, entitled Appetite for Destruction, has sold 27 million copies worldwide and reached number one on the United States Billboard 200. In addition, the album charted three Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Sweet Child o' Mine" which reached number one. 1991's Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II debuted on the two highest spots on the Billboard 200 and have sold a combined 14 million copies in the United States alone.

While glam metal was the leading genre in record sales, video charts and radio airplay, Guns N' Roses offered a grittier, more traditional take on rock music, and they are known for their authenticity.

Classic Music Video: Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

Grammy Award winning single.

Soundgarden Bio

Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by lead singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's permanent drummer in 1986 and bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.

Soundgarden was one of the key bands in the creation of grunge, a style of alternative rock that developed in Seattle and was based around the band's record label Sub Pop. Soundgarden was the first grunge band to sign to a major label, but Soundgarden did not achieve commercial success until Seattle contemporaries Nirvana and Pearl Jam popularized grunge in the early 1990s.

Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and yielded the Grammy Award–winning singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman". In 1997, the band broke up due to internal strife over its creative direction. Soundgarden has sold 8 million records in the U.S., and an estimated 20 million albums worldwide.

Classic Music Video: Juice Crew - The Symphony

Classic compilation track.

Juice Crew Bio

The Juice Crew were a pioneering hip-hop collective in the mid to late 1980s founded by producer Marley Marl and housed by the label Cold Chillin' Records. The group's name was derived from radio DJ Mr. Magic's alias, "Sir Juice". The Juice Crew first grabbed at notoriety with a single entitled "The Bridge", which sparked a long time rivalry between the largely Queens-based crew and the Bronx rapper KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions. Marl would also produce another rivalry for a young female rapper named Roxanne Shanté, releasing "Roxanne’s Revenge" in response to a hit single by UTFO. The two battles soon came to end, however the Juice Crew had already garnered significant attention and expanded to produce some of the most successful and influential hip-hop artists of the 1980s and 1990s. The crew would further establish its firm hold on hip-hop in 1988 with their ground-breaking single, "The Symphony". "the Symphony" is widely recognized as the original 'posse cut' The juice crew members over time would include, Marley Marl, Roxanne Shante, Dimples D, Big Daddy Kane, Tragedy, Mr. Cee,Craig G, Kool G Rap, DJ Polo, Cool V, Masta Ace, Mc Shan, and Biz Markie

Kane was responsible for jump-starting and being the archetype for the career of Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G. Jay-Z, now an outstandingly commercially successful rapper, got his start as Kane's hypeman. He now lives in the Raleigh-Durham region of North Carolina.

Classic Music Video: Pete Rock & CL Smooth - T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You)

Mecca and the Soul Brotha.

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You)

Pete Rock & CL Smooth Bio

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth were a highly influential rap group from Mount Vernon, New York. They made their debut in the rap world with their 1991 EP, All Souled Out. It sold moderately well enough to justify Elektra Records clearing the way for 1992's Mecca and the Soul Brother LP.

As a producer, DJ Pete Rock (Peter Phillips) tended to prefer obscure soul and jazz sides for sample sources, frequently making use of horn-driven hooks. Lead vocalist CL Smooth (Corey Penn) tended to be philosophical in his raps, and he mostly avoided profanity. Their signature hit was “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”, a dirge for fallen friends--namely Troy "Trouble T-Roy" Dixon, a member of Heavy D & The Boyz, who died in 1990.

1994's The Main Ingredient was the follow up, and they appeared on a string of guest appearances for remixes, soundtracks, and other works. Public Enemy, EPMD, Heavy D and Johnny Gill were among the artists they collaborated with, and they can also claim credit for producing (and performing on) Run-DMC’s 1993 comeback single 'Down with the King'. Despite all this, the duo failed to go gold on any of their own releases.

Separating in 1995 (shortly after a well-received Sprite TV commercial), they eventually reunited on a handful of cuts from Pete Rock’s solo recordings: Soul Survivor (1998), PeteStrumentals (2001) and Soul Survivor II (2004). They also went on a brief reunion tour as a warm up for their then-anticipated new album, which ended with a show at London's famous Jazz Cafe. Despite these intermittent collaborations, the pair has exchanged dismissive comments toward each other in separate interviews, disavowing plans for a full-fledged reunion.

Their Best-of compilation, Good Life, was released on Elektra in 2003.

The group is best known for the hit singles "Drop", "Passin' Me By" and "Runnin'", as well as their first album, Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde.

Classic Music Video: Lords of the Underground - Chief Rocka

Classic flashback, gotta know where we came from to know where we are going.

Lords of the Underground Myspace page

The Lords of the Underground (L.O.T.U.G.) are a hip-hop trio based out of Newark, New Jersey. MCs Mr. Funke and DoItAll Dupré met DJ Lord Jazz (a native of Cleveland) when all three were undergraduates at Shaw University.

The three are perhaps best remembered for the singles "Funky Child", "Chief Rocka" and "Tic Toc"; all of which were wildly eccentric manifestos. The music video for "Funky Child" features the group members parading around in their underwear.

Their chief producer was Marley Marl's protégé, K-Def. Pete Rock remixed their songs "Flow On" and "Check It" in 1994 .

In their initial releases, their first two albums Here Come The Lords (1993) and Keepers of the Funk (1994), earned them an award from Black Entertainment Television in 1993 . They collaborated with George Clinton; their second album's title track, which samples his work, features him in a cameo. The track is generally more abrasive and less conventionally tuneful in its instrumentation than most of their work.

Gangster posturing was rhetorically referenced, but never outright indulged in, by the group, except on their 1995 single "Burn Rubber", which took a cavalier pro-carjacking attitude and featured a line where Mr. Funke unapologetically said he'd "even jeopardize [his] friends" for the sake of a jacking. However, the song was recorded for and prominently featured in the Newark car-jacking film "New Jersey Drive," and can be seen as a reflection of that film's mentality, as well as the popularity of joyriding carjacks in that city in the 1990s, rather than an endorsement of violent crime. Because their dalliance in gangsterism was half-hearted, they were one of a number of groups lost in the shuffle when gangsta rap became dominant.

Their reunion album Resurrection (1999), released via Queen Latifah's Jersey Kidz imprint, was so small-scale a release that few realized it had been recorded. Da Brat made an appearance on it.

The Lords are best remembered in connection with the golden age of hip hop. As such, when Nas decided in 2007 to do a remix of his song "Where Are They Now?" (which asked of the fates of several long-forgotten golden age rappers). The Lords were among those requested to appear. DoItAll Dupré performs eight bars on the track. The others featured include Positive K, Father MC, Rob Base, Redhead Kingpin, Monie Love, and members of Black Sheep, Salt-N-Pepa, Three Times Dope, the Jungle Brothers, the Fu-Schnickens and Das EFX.

DoItAll appeared briefly in the final scene of the final episode of The Sopranos credited as Du Kelly, as one of a series of potentially ominous figures entering the diner.
